EV CHARGING

EV Charging Stations are being installed at public destinations such as interstate highways, shopping centers, public parking garages and lots, hotels, restaurants and other businesses, multi-dwelling residences and workplaces to supplement residential charging.  ​The charging infrastructure industry has aligned with a common standard called the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocol with this hierarchy for charging stations: location, EV charging port and connector.

• Level 1: Approximately 5 miles per hour charge rate

• DC Fast Charging: Approximately 100 to 200+ miles range per 30 minutes charge rate​

• Inductive Charging: The US Department of Energy is conducting research to investigate the feasibility of high-powered wireless charging.  More information on Inductive Charging Research Efforts is available from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.  ​
